The old dark bluing is so awesome. Bring it back, dag-gum-it!!!!

P.S. Quality still matters. You'll sell more guns!!!

They can't do it. They don't have the equipment or the exact recipe. Carbonia Oil is no longer made and without it, you can't do Carbonia Bluing.

More than the old bluing ,it's the old polishing they need to bring back.

Polishing is part of the equation BUT you can't replicate either the color or more importantly, the depth of color by using other methods.

It may look great BUT there have been numerous reports that Smith & Wesson's New bluing technique reacts badly to some common gun cleaning solvents, some of which still contain some ammonia. I haven't been able to track down what they are currently doing but I'd think twice about sending a gun to them for refinishing until I can get that nailed down. I wouldn't recommend sending a blued gun back to the mothership to anybody else either. Some reports claim that exposing the gun to solvents such as Hoppes #9 turned the new bluing blotchy. If true, that stinks to high heaven.

It's a sad state of affairs. The bluing (if you can call it that) on most new handguns is dismal at best.

I have an older Rossi Model 971. It has a nice blue finish than the vast majority of new handguns being made today, S&W or otherwise.

Do to the environmental laws were going to everything in stainless someday. Nickel finish is being phased out right now. Or maybe the blued guns will be epoxy painted some manufacturers are doing that already.
