Model 69 in 41 Magnum?
Love the new model 69 smaller frame 44 magnum that rolls 5 rounds. Seems like .41 magnum would be a very obvious choice for an alternate caliber for this model. Also the outer chamber wall is paper thin so a 41 mag chamber would give a little thicker cylinder wall for my hot reloaded rounds. Anyone have the inside scoop on whether or not they will be making this? I would hate to do all the work of making a custom one only for them to make a production one a few months later. Thanks

Your so close. I'm thinking a m69 with a 5" barrel? A 669 short under lug.
Have to rename it 696 41mag. It's time to go "zombie stopper" new revolver new name?

Model 697?
Taurus sold many .41 mag Trackers, so I imagine these would sell fine.
I LOVE anything .41 so what the hell, sounds good to me!

Love the concept, but the lack of a loading equivalent to .44 Special and lack of a shotshell for snakes reduces the usefulness to me.

No. 44 Mag bullet diameter (.429) minus 41 Mag bullet diameter (.410) = .019. Its a tiny bit smaller but no way you are gonna fit 6 in there. Also one great thing about the 5 shot is that the cylinder stop notches are cut in between the chambers in the thick part of the metal.

I kind of like the idea; but I think it needs to be a fixed-sighted 3-inch!
That would be an AMAZING ccw revolver!

I like the sound of an L framed 41 Magnum! It would be fantastic if it could look like my 36-6 Chief's Target Special and my 686+ Deluxe! I have always be a 6" revolver guy, but the 3" lugged barrel with target sights with a round butt has a certain appeal!

This is only a rumor , but I have heard that a 41 magnum with a 3" barrel and a round butt grip has already been built on an L-frame . It was a special order item for one of the exec's @ S&W . Maybe more will follow ?

There is an equivalent, the 41 special. It's been around so long now that Starline offers brass:
Caliber | Handgun, Pistol, Rifle | Reloading Ammo
Just google it up, as there are recipes galore out now. Handloader magazine is currently running a two issue report on it. The last issue had the history and general info. The next will have load data.

Funnily enough, folk have long been converting L frames to five shot .41 Special configuration. And then loading them hot! A colleague has had just such a beastie for over 10 years.
Wouldn't hurt my feelings if a factory version was made.

Yeah, I had the same thought (about loading it hot) as I received my latest hand-loader yesterday when I got home. In it, the author has many loads that rival standard 41 mag power. And of course, since the parent case is the standard 41 mag, the special is just a bit shorter and of less capacity but can be loaded to the same pressure.
Which begs the question: So, then, why bother! To me, the reason for making a "special" is to load it down some. Lead in the 750-950 fps range would be the ticket for the spl, IMHO.

I will take one of each of the above!
Put a tapered bbl on it and it would really look awesome , IMO !

Reed's Ammunition & Research had 41 special loads and brass. I have used the load and they are fine

Don't know what you consider a .44 Special equivalent, but LAX Ammo has a 210gr load @ a claimed 966 fps. I've shot a few hundred rounds of it, and I'd think it's around 925-950 fps; it's rather mild, much like a standard 230gr .45ACP. Gwelker's spot on the Reed's Ammo; they have six .41 Special loads in stock, including a 205gr wadcutter @ 950 fps. FWIW...

Well...........mostly: hear, hear. Don't forget a Smooth Trigger Face!
BUT, I disagree with the "no flutes". Who wants the extra rotational mass when you will be shooting it double action 99% of the time!
I'd also go for rounded/chamfered front cylinder edges like the 3rd model hand ejector look. Easier to re-holster.

A 210 grain LSWC at 950 fps is the equivalent of Elmer Keith's and Bill Jordan's proposed "police load" for the .41 Mag. Remington chose to "hot rod" both the "police load," to 1150 fps, and the JHP "hunting load" to 1500 fps! The load described would be an excellent choice for a 5 shot L-frame.
I would want one without the underlug and with fixed sights.

I understand that Ruger has just announced the GP-100 available in a 5 shot 44 special . To be officially announced at the upcoming Shot Show .
I was a little surprised it being limited to just 44 special , instead of , like S&W's 686 that became the 69 in 44 magnum / 44 special .
I'm sure it will be a fine offering from a fine company . The 44 special has a good following . I understand the Blackhawk in 44 special has been quite a success .

no lock
I desire one but the internal lock would be a deal killer.
