I would like to see a 640 in 9mm that is set up for moon clips. Don't worry about having the extractor star grab the case if not shot with the moon clip. 9mm is tapered and would easily eject with a pencil.

This would allow folks who carry a full sized 9mm to have a revolver chambered in the same round as a backup gun.

I went with a centennial because it's enclosed.

These guys can do the work for you.......I doubt if S&W will manufacture the one you specified anytime in the future.

I had them do a 625 mountain gun to allow 45acp's. I was very happy with it.

I'd buy a 940 no-lock if they brought it back again!

Look for a 940, it's just what you described.

As previously posted the wished for revolver was made during the 1990s as the Model 940 with 2" and 3" barrels.

Am I the only one annoyed by a century of people writing that without moon clips the empties can be ejected with a pencil? During 40 years of occasionally not bothering with moon clips I've never seen that done. The brass that does not fall out with the revolver pointed up is easily removed by grabbing the extractor groove with your finger nails.

I wrote specifically that the "brass" is easily removed because Wolf steel cased 9 MM sticks to revolver chambers so tight that it should not be fired in double action revolvers at all. That's the nature of steel cases. Double action revolver extractors are not strong enough to simultaneously eject 5 or 6 steel cases from higher pressure cartridges. Relatively low pressure steel cased .45 ACP was never inexpensive enough to tempt into buying it so I do not know if it would extract from DA revolvers using moon clips.

k22fan, the 9mm luger round being a tapered case would in all actuality just drop free from a cylinder. I used the example of the pencil because it is easier to use for me than trying to pick the brass out with my non firing hand because of the pollicization of that hand due to the amputation of my thumb. (Sorry I offended you).

I'm the one that should apologize for being cranky. Since I have good thumbs and finger nails I did not consider others might not also have them.

One draw back to Model 940s is that they cost about 75% more than similar vintage .38 Special Model 640s. On the other hand, you can recover that by advertising to knowledgeable S&W fans through the internet. Good luck with your hunt. You might get lucky and find one at a local store that does not appreciate their collector status.

Thank you Sir for the kind response. I have with the 940's (Since I found out they're out there) read about extraction problems with various ammunition. I have looked at the other companies offerings but can't stomach the plastic revolvers.

I might get a J frame cylinder and have it fitted to a 642 or 442 then send that cylinder to TK custom and have them mill it. Kind of expensive but a solution.

In the mean time I'll look for a 940.

If you find a 940 and it has extraction issues lightly hone the chambers and that usually solves the problem.
