Default Big boy 45acp revolver

Not for edc but more aimed for home defense.

7 shot 45acp on the N frame. I think that's what keeping me from getting a 45acp revolver is the round count, just add ONE more. Maybe even have a built-in laser like the bodyguard. Heck if it can't be done on the N frame make a x frame 8X. Thoughts..?

7 45s will not fit in an N frame cylinder, The cylinder might have enough diameter on a X frame for 7, but I doubt 8, but what a heavy gun for the round. Thing about the N frame 45 acp guns is that with full moon clips and practice you can reload really fast. I"ll stick with those and my L frame 44 5 shooters over the bulk of a bigger frame.

What about a 5-shot K-frame 45ACP snub? My wallet would fly open.

Sorry don't think that is going to happen either. I have 3 L frame 5 shot 44s a 69, a 696 and a 396. None of them would have any thickness left in the outer wall of the cylinder with a 45 case. I would love a 5 shot 45 acp S&W revolver myself. Measured and measured.

Taurus did it but, they run a smaller ratchet and their hand is closer to the center line of revolver, so they can move the rounds inwards and still have have enough chamber wall thickness. Plus moving the chambers inwards on the cylinder would mean the barrel would need to be lowered in the frame and that makes yoke clearances tighter. Unless S&W makes some real changes to their configuration it won' happen with a Smith.

If Taurus can make 5 shot 45 gun then smith certainly could. If they do then I will kindly give my 450 UL to my brother and buy a Smith in a heart beat. No way they can do a a 7shot regardless of the frames available. Why though and if you concerned about need capacity then go get a lousy glocky 20.

It would not be impossible for S&W to do. Just highly unlikely because they would have to do a lot more modification to make it happen. I have a Taurus of that frame size as well as my S&W. Measurements of them tell the story. Taurus's ratchet OD is considerable smaller than S&W and their hand is closer to the center line to operate smaller ratchet. If S&W simply moved the chambers in on the cylinder the chambers would cut into the ratchet in its current size.

So S&W would have to make the frame cut for the hand in different location, a smaller ratchet, narrow up the part of the trigger where hand works of it to move hand in. Then the frame would have to be forged so that barrel could be about 0.050 lower in frame so it lined up with chambers that are closer to center line. This would mean yoke would need to be redesigned similar to the way they did the model 69 to get a bigger barrel shank in as the L frame barrels like the 696 and 396 would be paper thin if in .452.

Not impossible, but it would be a lot of rework for a small market nitch revolver. Don't get me wrong, I really would like a S&W small frame light weight 45 acp using moon clips myself.

I settled on a 396 and a 696 in 44 special. Plus, I have a 2 3/4" barreled 325, scandium alloy N frame 6 shot on the way as well as the 45 Combat I made up. I have an alloy 1911 in 45 acp, but I carry big bore revolvers.

I have a Model 25-2 Model of 1955 Target with the 6.5" barrel.

It would be cool if S&W offered it again, along with other barrel lengths.

Or better, offer the Model 26 Model of 1950 Target. This has the barrel profile of the Model 27. S&W is currently making it in .45 Colt with a 6.5" barrel. (I wonder if they could fit a .45 ACP cylinder to it?) A 3.5" version with the 27/1950 profile barrel would be cool.

As for the 625, I had a 3" and regret letting it go.

Current production 45acp cylinders will not work in current 45 cot guns as the 45 colt guns use a longer cylinder. You could ream a 44 mag cylinder to 45 acp and mill down the rear for moonclip clearance and fit it to a 45 colt gun or simply get a 45 colt gun and clearance cut the center of it for full moons like I did this one.

I am a 45 idiot. Have 7 of them right now. 3 that do 45 colt only, 1 that does 45 acp only and 3 that do both. I have another barrel and a shooter 28-2 waiting for its turn to become a 45

Very nice... all of those aren't BEN serial prefix guns are they? I've got a 3" 625-3 I'm 45ACP that is, I love it! Previous owner put the gold bead up front. I've considering sending it off to get quad ported and some other work done to it. Still debating it, it's not a safe queen.
