Talking .41 Mag Heavy Duty

I would like a 1952-55 exact built .41 Mag in the 38/44 4" barrel. I mean a new built gun, made exactly like the old ones. I wish......

I'd buy two. Unfortunately, I think the closest we will ever come would be to have a custom gunsmith do a caliber conversion on an original HD.

I think if I had a 58, I'd leave it alone. I always wanted a nickle one!

S61,

That would probably be the closest to what I would like. Too bad about the safety lock.

My new m58 in nickel isn't going anywhere I like it.

I wish we had the 41 magnum in the N frames in 4", 5", 6", 8 3/8" barrels available in the s&w world famous nickel finish. The nickel finish from s&w and colt were so Purdy. The 357 mag, the 44 mag and the 45lc too.

While Hamilton Bowen is currently not taking in any work on S&W's, there are some 58's out there that have had HD barrels rebored and fitted to Model 58's in 41 Mag. His work is top notch and when he gets caught up I hope he starts taking S&W's again. Everything he has done for me has been perfect.

Maybe a special tribute m57 in 41 magnum with a 5" heavy barrel in nickel. I tribute to skeeter, Jordan and Elmer Keith.

It seems the manufacturers (S&W, Ruger, etc) missed the boat back in 2014 to do something like this to celebrate 50 years of .41 Mag!!!!

While not a new model 58 with HD barrel, what about a 41 mag. Mountain gun SS or blue; and just accept the adjustable sites? I have MGs in 45 colt, 45 acp and 629, and they are some of my favorite shooting and packing double action six guns.

I have been thinking about doing the same thing... I was born in 1952 and a few years ago bought a nice shooter grade .38-44 HD made in 52... I don't shoot .38 Special very much and have talked to Jack Huntington of JRH Precision about doing the conversion...very easy...

He converted a Model 53 .22 Jet to .327 Federal and a Unberti Cattlemen .357 to .41 Special for me already.

My recommendation would be to have it done in .41 Special or talking to Jack about fitting a Model 57/58 cylinder to the HD and have the barrel shank trimmed back if you really have to have a Magnum.

Forget waiting and wishing for S&W to do it...and you will have something to be proud of...

Bob

I was VERY disappointed that S&W didn't do a 50th Anniversary issue of the 57 and 58..****ger, Henry and Freedom Arms are the only ones keeping the caliber alive... If S&W wants to sell some guns...drop the IL from their Classic Series and see the sales go up...

I have a 520 barrel that I have been thinking about sending out to be rebored to .41...problem is I would have to buy a third 58 to mate it to as the two I have I like the way they are...

This'n could have been a 41......if I wasn't such a 44 fan.

Don’t limit yourself to the 44 mag only. I like all the magnum calibers. They say the 41 magnum has better penetration over the 44 magnum.

In shooting my very first N frame, the s&w m58/41mag 4” barrel I found out it’s a well balanced revolver.

About 10 yrs ago a friend of mine in Az had Hamilton Bowen convert a model 58 from 41 magnum to 45 Colt . Then a little later he had him convert a model 21 (44 special ) to 45 colt . The model 21 came back with the tapered barrel , or as some would say , " the standard barrel " . I had the opportunity to shoot the 58 but not the 21 . The 58 was a nice handling , shooting piece and the sights were still dead on . He believed in not hot rodding the cartridge , kept his hand loads about SAAMI specs . Regards, Paul

Problem with the Jet was it was found for me by my long time best friend back in 1974 when we were in college...and he passed away in 2010... Had no more use for the gun in Jet or Long Rifle so made something useful for me out of it...

Keith44...was that 520 barrel you had rebored...

It was a 4 inch model 24 barrel with the ramp and blade lowered.
