I have M&P 32-20 fixed sights . But I have a Ruger SS in 32 mag. with adj sights that just berries for knocking around the farm & woods.......

I too am a fan of the 32-20 and the 32 S&W Long, H&R mag etc, for that matter. But TBH, they don't do anything that the 38 Special can do at lest as well, if not better, and more cheaply ammo wise. I believe that the introduction of the 38 Special was the death knell for the old 32-20 for use as a hand gun cartridge.

38 is to big to be a useful woods gun, unless you are Bob Munden
and shoot the head off small game. Same concept applies to
woods rifles, we tend to get over gunned. The point is not one
calibre vs another, the never ending arguement. The 32/20 is
flat shooting with a 100gr range cast bullet which makes it ideal
for animals like coon or groundhog and on smaller stuff like
squirrel & rabbit it doesn't do excessive damage.

One of two I would like to see is a re-introduction of the Model 16-2 in original .32 S&WL or .32 H&R, really would make no difference. 5" or 6" would be equally desirable.

The second would be the same gun, 5", in .32-20.

My Model 16 no-dash will put most of it's shots in 4" +/- at 100 yards.** Will your .38 "That will do anything a .32 will" do that????? (**Didn't say my old eyes will still do this, but would 45-50 years ago, and with factory sights!)

The argument that a .32 won't do whatever doesn't wash! Carried to extreme go up in steps to .357, .44 M, etc. And after all, why do we still have those worthless .22s when anything bigger...... It you aren't a ".32 guy" you will never get it! If you are you already do!

I had 75 guns....kept 5, simply because I could not part with them.

Mr. Popkin, this means you are very intelligent or dispondant. Hope it's the first and not the second choice. No the Models you listed are not the most expensive but they sure have some potential for a value increase, not to mention the fact that they are great shooters as well as very versaitle in the number of different calibers that can be fired from them. Sure hope you are not strickened with Seller's Remorse after they are gone but good luck with the Auction!

As long as we're dreaming, why not a 32-20 with a 327 cylinder? Same idea as the model 48 with a 22 mag and a 22 lr cylinders set.

I'd rather see this in stainless but if S&W makes in in blue, I'm a buyer!

I hope I was intelligent in making the choice, but after a flooded basement (including my entire office space and seminar room, storing my furniture, replacing walls & flooring from the wet and finding my heating system was compromised (and replaced), the money had to come from somewhere. I realized that living was more important than storing (safe queens), yet it broke my heart after 25 years of assembling a collection of .32s from civil war to present. I need 4 (VERY expensive) guns to complete the type set, and they were not affordable to a retired guy, so I sent 70 guns to RIA and i am hoping for the best return. Starts in December, so if anyone wants my list for the December auction, Email me for Lot#s.

Bowers custom did the rechambering on the Model 16-4 to .327 Federal. I could have ordered the 32-20 cylinder at the same time, and I wanted to do one that was unfitted, but cost would have been around $400. I figured, why??? A .327 Federal can do anything a 32-20 can do except shoot the old ammo.

Being a naturally curious sort, I went to the Rock Island Auctions site and found the December guns that Terry is referring to. Since the provenance is listed as "Popkin collection," it's easy to find all of them by simply typing "Popkin" in the search box. This process saves having to look at all the pages for S&W guns.

There are 15 wonderful revolvers there, and even though I'm not a collector, it was fun indeed to see them!

So sorry to hear of your flooding issues, Terry, and I hope your recovery from those goes well.

I know this post is a little off topice, OP, but since you were asking about the 32 caliber, I hope this post isn't objectionably "drifty."
