Default 9mm pocket pistol

Think about the old .32s- the cylinder was only as long as the round.

Instead of turning a 640 into a 940, what if S&W shortened the J-Frame specifically for the 9mm? It would be way more compact. Nice for pocket carry.

Less jump, too- better for muzzle velocity.

I just turned a 60-14 into a 9mm with a cylinder swap. regripped it with an older pachmayer grip and wow is it a comfortable and well balanced revolver.

Be careful about shooting .355 slugs down a .357 hole. It might not be too terribly accurate, but I'm sure it's fine for SD distances, 5-10 yards. Also, the round won't develop the same velocity in an oversized bore. That could be the difference between an hollowpoint opening up or pissing someone off.

Indeed. Especially with the aluminum alloy frame Airweights.

Could lose some serious mass in the cylinder with a 9mm-particular shortened cylinder and frame. Maybe down to 13oz with no fancy materials.

could you handload and expand the case .002 and use the same grain .357 bullets? I'm a complete novice at reloading, that's why I ask.

The S&W Mod 940 has been available for quite some time. I recommend Pachmayar compacts as 9mm is quite snappy in a J frame.
