Airweight or Airlight K-frame
Did they ever do this? Would love a 6-shot 38 special snub with the K frame trigger.

Smith & Wesson Model 12 - Wikipedia
Mine is a 2 inch Model 12-2.
I suggested a Scandium frame reissue a while back. The Model 315 Nightguard was out of production before I even knew it was being made.

Always thought a stainless version of the Model 12 with a three inch standard barrel, rated for +P, with a RB would be a cool little carry revolver.

That would be wonderful. Make it as original except for the 3” barrel, or even better to me would be if it was rated for +P (Scandium?).
Maybe they would only sell a hundred, but that would be a happy hundred owners.

Model 12 but not thin.
The original had a thinner frame I understand. All they need to do is run them in aluminum instead of steel. Same jigs I guess. Allow for the Steel barrel and cylinder and Walla..instant happiness for thousands of CCW holders. As for the 315 Night Guard this would be better.. you dont need Scandium and then I could afford the dam thing. If a 442 or 642 retails for $479 why wouldn't an Aluminum K Frame be doable?

I have a round butt model 12-2 in almost new condition. I have never carried it due to posts that I have seen regarding cracked frames and excessive wear to the finish. I think a modern version of a air weight K frame would be wonderful.

Fairly late in the Vietnam conflict (about 1970-71) the US Army started taking 4" Model 12 Airweight M&P revolvers for arming helicopter pilots and crews. I saw those with both square butts and round butts at that time (probably a concession made to facilitate production within contract times). So I am sure that S&W could do a round butt Model 12 with 2" barrel easily enough. The only question is whether or not the market would support the investment and effort.
An earlier effort was the USAF "Air Crewman" revolver. 2" barrel, aluminum alloy frame and cylinder. As I recall those did not work out very well, most were destroyed and those that remain are very desirable collector pieces.

S&W would rather make a Plastic Fantastic 9MM for $49.00 and sell it for $300.00 all machine made no skilled Fitters required...........

Up to the Model 12-3, the frames were .002" narrower. The 12-3 was the same size as the steel K-frames.
I agree that the reissue of the Model 12, even without a Scandium frame, would be a good thing.

Yeah. About that: Their original MSRP was $995.00, and the estimated used value was $1750.00 as of July 28, 2019, IF YOU COULD FIND ONE. There are 0 listed on the "Broker" site which isn't remarkable since S&W only made 576 of them. Five. Hundred. Seventy. Six.

A friend of my mom's had one with the 4" barrel. He kept it at his TV repair shop. Fire broke out and burned the place to the ground...the revolver didn't survive. That was 1974 and I was crushed, as I was hoping to somehow convince him to part with it.
