Default .500 Special on a "N" frame

It's a relatively low power round throwing a 350gr bullet at about 800 to 1200fpcs. I have a Bowen .50 Special on a Redhawk platform and it is very comfortable to shoot. That .500 platform on an "N" frame with a 5 or 6" barrel would be lovely.

Be an interesting project. Would need to go to 5 rounds and move the chambers in on the cylinder. That would mean an off center bore on the barrel to move the bore to match the move of chamber in cylinder.

It would all be tight. Rims on 44 mags and 45 colts already dip in between teeth on ratchet and cylinder wall on od side getting thin on 45 colts.

Redhawks start with a .08 wider cylinder . A 500 case is .076 larger than a 45 colt case

I didn't realize the project would require a re-design and re-tooling to that extent. Would probably not be economically feasible for a such a niche market. Glad I have the Bowen.

I got interested in this kind of idea because I would like a smaller framed S&W 45acp. I know Taurus did it, but, they use a smaller OD rachet and their hand is of course closer to the center of the frame to operate it. (I bought a 431 to look at converting it. I have measured and measured a model 69 I bougth with the same thoughts. Just won't work without a whole lot of modification.

I am a die hard S&W guy, but I was tempted once to buy a Redhawk in 480 once. Interesting idea. But just like your 500 idea I think it would be very thigt for a S&W N frame.

I do wish the factory would sell cylinders with no chambers. I want to make an N frame that is kind of an over sized 22 Jet. A 30-30 case necked down and blown out firing lighter 308 bullets. Kind of a short 30 Herret. But as there are no 30 caliber N frame cylinders, its a start from scratch deal.
