Default 9mm carbine

I’d like S&W to make a carbine in 9mm that takes M&P mags as well has adapter for other brand mags in an AR or possibly redo the M76.

M1940 and M 76 fill the bill. Given the political environment they may not be making pistols after Nov 3 let alone carbines.

I'd like to see a little carbine as well. However I wouldn't want it to look like all the other Robocop carbines out there. Ruger came out with one but it's a take down which adds a lot of weight for a feature I have no use for. Something along the lines of an M1 carbine maybe. At least as far as overall looks go.

Maybe something unique, like what Mechtech offers - attach your M&P frame to it, and you have two guns in one. Or a Bullpup stock. I personally prefer traditionally-shaped rifles to pistol-grip or robocop designs. Something light and handy, with iron sights.

i would be happy with one that took M&P mags but offering other mag choices with an adapter would be a nice option as long as that adapter doesn't hurt reliability.

Speaking of reliability, something that wasn't straight blow back would be great. A 9mm blowback gun needs a really heavy bolt that makes the whole gun heavy and increases felt recoil, not that a 9mm carbine is going to hurt you. And blowback guns never seem to be as reliable as other types

I would also like something more traditional in appearance. It doesn't need to be blued steel and wood but there are already enough 9mm ARs and guns like the Beretta Storm and Keltec sub2K out there

SW is always behind in new products compared to Ruger.
There Are so many 9mm carbines out there plus all the AR 9's there is no benefit to SW just to use SW mags, Glock mags are used in many and can get 30 rounds.

I have a CZ scorpion "pistol" with brace it rocks! Much lighter than the Ruger PC which is more rifle like and now has all kinds of mods, It is a bit heavy but uses Glock mags which are some of the best magazines out there.

My Marlin 9MM Camp Carbine takes my S&W M659 magazines nicely.
I have noticed no problems with straight blowback actions being unreliable. Easier to manufacture.

I have a knockoff semi M76. I found a 8" barrel and went through the NFA process. Pretty fun but I don't shoot it much because of parts

My Dad had a Camp-9 carbine (my brother has it now). We never had an issue with the gun. Either using the OEM Marlin mag or S&W mags it went boom every time. We never shot anything but FMJ rounds in it. IDK if it would cycle JHP ammo, we never tried it.

Willing to bet that kel tec, or ruger will make an M&P version some day?
So many M&P handguns out there....would be a big market I think?

Had a Marlin Camp-9 carbine..... heavy as hell IIRC.

Today I rely on Beretta CX-4 carbines for PDWs.... 15,17,18,20 and 30rd factory or Mec-gar magazines.... pairs nicely with my Beretta 92 or Centurions.

IIRC 5lb and 29 inches long

Kel-Tec does make a Sub2000 that takes M & P mags.

The Marlin is steel and wood and the barrell is very thick. The receiver is one solid block of milled steel. The bolt assembly weighs a lot too. The beretta is plastic and aluminum? ...so yeah lighter.

Default I have a Kel tec.....

...and it's reliable, but I don't know if it's "Home Defense reliable". But I really do favor them for pointability and handling. I've always been a natural with carbines. They are my favorite type of gun.

I went Glock. I also went with an 11.5 inch barrel. It is technically a pistol but...

The pistol performs well eating any thing thrown at it.

LOL..... I was thinking of the Marlin as a lightweight carbine like the the M-1.

For it's size and cartridge it was a heavyweight IMO

Yeah they are hard to find. I've only seen a couple for sale, ever in about 20 years, and I bought 1 of them.
They are for sale on gunbroker&other websites, but they all want big bucks for them, and they nice....just not $1k nice imo
Nutnfancy like them too

As so often happens, they will introduce-and it won't sell. I have had my Marlin Camp Carbines for 30 years. I like the heft of the steel receiver.
How about a carbine in 9MM/38 Super taking M1911 magazines ?

I don't believe S&W has the production capacity to do anything but keep up with existing orders until further notice.
you must also remember that as a publicly traded company," neat guns" really don't matter as mych as we'd like to think.

Thugs come in, I grab 9mm Cx4. Factory 30 in the gun, couple of 20s in the Storm Packer stock pouch.

I owned an Island M1 Carbine (divorces can be brutally expensive) back in the day and recently a Ruger PC. Whereas the M1 was light to handle, the Ruger is a heavy tank for a 9mm. Smith come out with a 9mm carbine with similar dimensions to the M1 carbine? Would buy one in a heartbeat.

Not traditional looking at all but they make CAA MCK for the M&P now.
MCKSWMP | Micro Conversion Kit (Smith & Wesson) - CAA Gear Up
I've got three of them for Glocks. This one has a G17 with a 6 1/2" threaded barrel. It folds up and fits in a laptop bag.

I love my Camp-9. I'd really like to have a Camp-45. Just not enough to drop 10 or 12 Benjamins to get one.

Too bad the Roni doesn't work with my 4 inch 2.0 compact. I do not like the looks but I bet it would be fun at the range.

In general I have avoided anything with a brace since they are an executive order or ATF decision away from going the way of bump stocks. Were legal, now they are not, no grandfather clause or even compensation for current owners. I will not buy a SBR masquerading as a pistol with a brace for that reason. But the Roni is inexpensive enough it might be worth taking a chance on.

Meh, if they outlawed the brace for ARs just take it off.
It simply slides on the buffer tube anyway...

Which leaves you with an unbalanced 5+ pound pistol that is hard to shoot well. A buffer tube is a poor substitute for a stock/brace.

A usable stock is the only reason I would like a 9mm carbine to supplement the handguns I have in that caliber.

Picked up this 915 to go with the Marlin Camp 9 carbine. They share magazines! Took it to the range today. It shoots a little left for me, but a great pistol for the range and self defense.

I was looking, unsuccessfully, for a Marlin Camp 9 until I gave my Model 469 to my grandson.

Thats a nice 469. It seems like the old S&W 9mm's are getting passed to family members, and/or stored away as "safe queens"? At least you kept it in the family.
I have not seen many for sale. I looked for 10 months before I found the 915.

absolutely...a reliable 9mm M1 carbine clone, wood stock and all, would be hugely popular, would buy one in a heartbeat. Picked up a Ruger PC, found it clunky and heavy for the caliber.

with Ruger purchasing the assets of Marlin, I wonder if there would be any possibility of a Camp Carbine 2.0?

Although I doubt Ruger would have it fed with S&W 59 series mags LOL

Same here. I have wanted a 9mm carbine for a few years so I finally gave in and traded a Glock 48 for a Ruger PC with the mlock fore-end last December. I read a lot of reviews that mentioned how it was heavy, clunky and not as reliable as most good 9mm handguns but still a lot of fun to shoot.

I underestimated how much the drawbacks would bother me. The new wore off in one range session.

Out of about 100 rounds there were a couple of malfunctions when I tried a 27 round Magpul magazine but it worked fine with the 17 round mags. It was accurate and I was mowing down plates faster than I ever have with a handgun. But like you said it just felt clunky. The aluminum mlock handguard had a lot of sharp edges, felt awkward, and was not nearly as comfortable as the polymer Mlock handguard on my AR. Still debating on whether to give it a few more tries or just go ahead and trade it.

The guy I got it from said his Keltec Sub2Ks were lighter, more reliable and more fun to shoot so it is not like I wasn't warned. I still want a 9mm carbine but I am not going to ignore negative reviews next time I start looking for one.

Even better would be to offer the M1 Carbine with a wood stock and also a Paratrooper model. I might have to have one of each.

Interesting...how about a camp 9 2.0 that takes S&W M&P mags?

It took a couple of years but S&W came out with a PPC pretty close to what I want.

https://www.smith-wesson.com/product/fpc

For some reason S&W doesn't list weights on their website anymore but other sources say it is 5 pounds, quite a bit lighter than the Ruger I had.

Its foldable but unlike the Keltec folds sideways so its optics friendly. I am going to wait until I see some reviews but if it looks like it will be reliable I am going to buy one. That's a significant if though. It seems harder to make a reliable blowback 9mm carbine than it does to make a reliable tilting barrel handgun.

Weight is 80.42 oz which translate 5.02lbs so it should be a lot lighter than Ruger PCC.

It looks pretty bare bones, so it should be lightweight. I'd pick one up if the price is right

I have been waiting for an M&P15 in 9mm with changeable mag wells for years.
As with my choice of cars I like them to be efficient but looks are also very important,
I just can't own and drive a car I find terrible to look at,
To each his own, but that's gotta be one of the ugliest guns I've seen.

FWIW PSA is already offering them for about 5% below the S&W site MSRP.
Give it a little time for the price to come down a bit and I'll probably order one...

Henry's new 9mm carbine looks nice. Walnut stock and all. Looks real nice. A little bit pricey though.

Anybody have a Chiappa M-1 Carbine 9mm?
It’s looks to be a fun little gun.
Also a little pricey.

i've had a few camp 9 carbines over the years and as already been mentioned they take s&w mags and are reliable and fun to shoot.
only problem is they have pretty much dried up so finding one now can be a chore.
