It seems that the most of gunsmiths have declined converting L-frame Smiths 357's to 41 special . They will convert Ruger GP100's . Regards Paul

I had Andy Horvath convert a 4" model 28 to 41 Special and it is a sweetheart of a gun.

Factory 41 special from S&W ...
5 shot , 3 inch barrel , adjustable sights ...
My model 58 wants a little brother to play with .
How about an AirWeight model for concealed carry !

One of the problems , as I see it is that there is NO SAAMI spec's for the caliber . Therefore , it seems it's deemed a " wildcat " caliber .
Converting a model 28 to 41 special ? Now that's a great idea . I just might start keeping an eye out for a " beater " HP in 4" for just such a conversion . I like that idea better than converting a Ruger GP100 . Regards Paul

Why not just get a M57 and use .41 Spl. brass? Starline makes the brass.

I have 2 model 57's . One 4" and one 6.5" . The idea of a designated 41 special is a great idea . I can shoot 38 specials in my 357's but I still wanted a designated 38 special gun . So , I bought an excellent Colt Police Positive Special in 38 special . Regards Paul

David Clements did my 686 .41spl. cost about $600.00 15yrs ago and the pilot run of Star-Line brass was about $7000.00. It isn't much if you say it fast..........

I don’t shoot the special ammo of any caliber in the longer magnum cyclinders so the bores don’t get that ring around the collar from the shorter cases.
I wish the magnums came with a convertible special cylinder.

...if you want a L-frame .41 Special buy one of the now discontinued Taurus Trackers. They came in 4" & 6" with adjustable sights and 2.5" with fixed...all models were available in stainless or titanium...
I have one 4" stainless and two titanium with 4" and 6" barrels. Have never seen one of the 6" in stainless.
With their short cylinders that will take all but the really long .41 Magnum Heavies, they make the perfect .41 Special. That and shooting Magnums from them is really no fun anyway...and why beat up such a light gun when 1000 fps will get everything that needs to get done, done.
S&W could just bring out the 69 in .41 Magnum...but they have abandoned their own child so I don't expect them to ever make any... Guess they aren't interested in making extra money...

If you are only going to shoot the shorter ammo why would the ring matter?
