Well there is the S&W Model 3 Schofield that is available, but I am assuming you mean something more modern that would compete with Ruger's single action line. It is an interesting idea and I would like to see what they would come up with.

I think it would be cool if, like n4zov suggests, S&W brings out a design to compete with Ruger Blackhawks.

For the CAS market, they should offer an updated version of the Schofield with updates to ease manufacture but retain its original appearance in order to bring the cost down some. If that offends the purists, so be it. But if S&W wants to play in the CAS market, $2000 for a revolver ain't gonna cut it.

Yes i was thinking along the lines of a revolver that would compete with the Ruger Blackhawk....maybe chambered in 357mag,44mag,460&500mag etc or maybe a S&W vaquero ?????

I work on a military base and from what I see here among the young soldiers, S&W knows they are going to sell a bunch more AR's and semi auto pistols than they ever will a SA revolver. When I pull out my old S&W's and Colts at the range, the black plastic bunch just kinda looks at me. It comes with age, I guess.

I think the single action market is well and truly saturated. Sort of like an intersection with four gas stations. With a little less plastic money to throw around I think there is going to be some shakeout, rather than anyone else getting into it. Don't know the stats, but I suspect that Ruger and US Firearms are going to own the plain and fancy sectors of this, with the crumbs going to the very minor players.

I'm surprised the Russians, Turks, and the Chinese aren't cranking them out.

Bat Guano i agree with you there about the single action market being saturated...alot of manufactures out there no doubt.

I'm always amazed when I see the number of companies making single actions, 1911's and AR15's and all the variations.
I wonder if all of them will still be here in just a few years.

I'd buy two Schofields, if they were made out of Stainless Steel, were 5.5", and made in .357 Mag.

Oh yeah, and were $700 or less. $2,000 just doesn't cut it.

The simplest solution would for S&W to bring out the 1899 M&P in 38 Special with a single action only hammer configuration and a period correct target type front sight. Call it the 1899 M&P Target or something marketable.

Not totally period correct but H&R & Norinco has proved SASS will reinterpret the rules if the price is right.

I think a SA only revolver would be exempt from the lock requirements and if they kept the price reasonable it would sell.

Not sure S&W could crack the market hold Ruger has with respect to single actions. All of my single actions are Rugers. I would never buy one of those imported single actions from Italy. Unless S&W is going to do it better than Ruger and for less, don't see how they crack the market.

i vote for a smith in the ruger bisley type configuration, am sure they could come up with something that stands out from the crowd. would give more input but, i dont consult for free.

i would like to see an affordable ( same price range as there popular DA revolvers) line of schofeild revolvers as well as something to compete with the Ruger vaquero and Blackhawk in centrefire and rimfire.

If they brought out a schofield in 44 russian Id buy it today, better yet in Stainless.
