A mother was on TV news last night saying she got a call from her daughter who was holed up in her apartment due to an armed barricade situation.

"So I said, I'll be right over."

Really? What good will that do? The cops will have the whole area taped off, she probably wouldn't be close enough to see anything, and she might take up a parking space LE could use. Oh, and then there is the small matter of standing around in the heat unable to do jack then realizing you have no water and are feeling woozy. Yeah. that'll help your girl.

I don't get it. Maybe it's just me and my fatalistic upbringing, but sometimes you have to understand when a situation is beyond your control. Is it a control thing with people not to admit this?

When my son was in daycare ( 25 odd years ago ) the daycare hosted an exhibition for a local martial arts school
Apparently my son was talking when he should have been listening , the martial arts “instructor” reached out and booped my 5 year old son with boxing gloves on the top of his head
When I heard this i immediately went to the daycare to ask what happened
It was explained to me that Connor wasn’t paying attention and if I didn’t like it I could take it up with the black belt instructor
Well, I had all night and all the next day to think on it , soon as my work was done I drove to the gym and rudely confronted the instructor in front of his class
Asked the *** what the (heck) he thought he was doing putting hands on my boy
Instructor said it wasn’t intended as a “strike” (his words)
I told him I knew that or we wouldn’t be talking !
I went on to tell him you NEVER hit a child on the head and you will NEVER touch my son again
He apologized ,and satisfied, my son and i walked out
Looking back it’s kind of amazing I didn’t get used as an example in front of his class lol ( I was 230 lbs and used to hard work so maybe not ;-))
Protective parents will step into harms way without fear of consequences when it means protecting their kids
Edit to add : I know this isn’t the same situation just sharing for smiles lol

She probably wanted to be as close to the scene as possible. First hand news and know precisely when the event was over…… makes sense to me. Question is what was she carrying at the time? Would a 380 be to small ?

n the midst of an aircraft fire...I was directing my guys when the most annoying of all the rubberneckers got in my face. A 737 and passengers is more important than a TV reporter. He broke onto the secured airfield at 0100 at night. Rather than fight with him just had him arrested. He sat in the pokey for a couple hours before the asst states attorney asked me to withdraw the charges. told her only if he apologizes. Luckily I had a good working relationship with her and the other reporters for Channel 11. The reporter was PO'd. I really didn't like reporters when I was doing my job. Quite often got in the way

I especially liked the news folks who lectured me about the rights of the press. I enjoyed explaining they also had a right to reasonable bail and a jury trial.

Never, ever, acknowledge the existence of a fourth estate. They are just people in work to make money like the rest of us.

We did have a kindaneat interaction with a TV reporter one night. House fire...to the ground. No idea if anyone was inside so we were searching(the bad part of the job. One of my guys was shoveling stuff looking for a victim. TV people were right there. He said Hey LT..we have a body. They fired up the cameras . He was holding a shoe reporter said how do you know there's a body all you have is a shoe? He kinda held it out to her and said well yeah...but the foot is still in it. Camera guy puked..she almost did. She called me by my last name a few minutes later and told me we were evil so and so's. I got along well with her
