My brother brought his Randall Made over to me to sharpen for hunting season, and I thought it would be a good time to have a photo shoot.

The family story goes like this: Dad says the family (he, his three older brothers, and parents) loaded up for a road trip to Orlando from Ft. Worth back in 1966 to see some kinfolk out that way. At some point in the trip his dad (my granddad) slipped off and went and bought the Model 3. Later on in the trip, the purchase of the knife was discovered, and there was some chastising from my grandmother about the price paid for one single knife (the sticking point was that it was equivalent to "two bills of groceries"). Dad remembers many silent hours on the ride back after the spat.

After using the knife for a few years, my grandfather thought the blade was a little long for his uses and he ordered the Model 7 through the mail. My dad inherited the Model 3 when he started deer hunting and my brother inherited the Model 7 recently.

Both of these Randall Mades are used regularly, gutting at least one deer or pig a year, and most years multiple. Both are still going strong after 50+ years of use, so I guess my grandfather got his money's worth.

Here is the Model 5 I had to buy myself since my dad won't pass down his dad's knife (he won't pass down any of the guns either :(). I wish they still only cost "two bills of groceries;" I guess they might soon with the way the price of food is increasing. I probably paid too much for the knife, but it is a quality tool and I haven't missed the money. I use mine regularly as well, but it's still developing its patina.

Don't hunt anymore but I have skinned many an animal with Randall Knives; small game to big bull elk. I've had Models 18, 23, 1, 8, Lil Beaver, Yukon Skinner and maybe one or two others.

I have 6 or 7 of them and love em all. Four of them I use on a regular basis and the rest live in the safe (for now). I do have to get them together for a group photo one of these days!

I like old knives, blue steel and walnut long guns, pistols and revolvers. These knives have honest use and much character.

Have a blessed day,

Leon

Mine is a Model 28 shown with my S&W Mod. 28-2. The knife has field dressed a few deer since its acquisition and never disappoints. I had a beautiful Model 1, fighting knife with a stag handle but, honestly it was not a practical field knife, IMO. I sold it to a friend of mine who was just getting into Randall knives and his collection is now in the high double digits

The price of Randal knifes won't be going up nearly as fast as the price of groceries in the next few years, count on it. Might be a few will be selling Randall knives to buy groceries though.

I like your taste in both knives and S&W revolvers! I just have some vintage fixed blade Buck knives, a vintage 110 folder and several custom hunting knives but I’ve always wanted a Randall knife!

Does the Pope Pray ?

Fan since 1961 ... I remember the day I went into the shop and bought my first . A new knife they were developing that didn't have a number , just a name ... Pathfinder ... I bought it ... Bo Randall was the man at the counter , I was in awe .
Next year I ordered a Model #1 ... and every year after would order a knife ... A $10.00 deposit got the order going , it took a year or two or three for them to be made ...But that gave me enough time to earn / save the money for each ... it was my lay-away plan !
