I acquired a well used Comp40 whose compensator is slightly loose. I want to align the compensator and think that I need to use locktight on its threads to keep it in place. Has anyone done that and if so which locktight did you use and what were the results?

If the threads are loose they may be worn or poorly cut. Locktite should not be needed on a comp. I personally do not like using Locktite on firearms but that being said, if you are left no other choice, use the low strength purple and if necessary only up to the medium strength blue version. NEVER use red as it is so called permanent. IMHO if they keep loosening up - the threads on your barrel or comp are the real issue. Before doing anything at all, why not give it a good workout without anything but a proper tightening.

The threads appear to be okay. I can tighten the compensator on the barrel, but when the slide is assembled to the frame the compensator loosens up very slightly. It is as if it were over tightened in the past causing it to rotate too much and be misaligned when installed. It needs to be held at a position just before where it is tight to the barrel, hence my thought of using Locktite.

If the slide is not allowing the comp to be attached tightly and stay put then something is not correct. I'd call the manufacturer of the comp and see what they gave to say.

The Comp 40 has an integral compensator screwed onto the barrel. It was manufactured that way by the Performance Center. As I mentioned above it seems that it might have been tightened too much in the past essentially cutting the barrel's threads further than originally manufactured. I'm not talking much here, possibly .001-.002 which is enough to allow it to be rotationally misaligned . As I mentioned above the compensator needs to be positioned just shy of being tight on the barrel's threads. I'll try the Locktite and see if it holds the compensator in place.

I looked closer at the compensator attachment and saw that it butts to a collar at the barrel, so my thought of cutting a deeper thread is not valid. I wonder if the face of the compensator or collar on the barrel has simply worn leading to the rotational misalignment. A shim would correct that, but it would be about the thickness of tin foil. I still think Locktite would be the best solution. Does any one have experience with one of these?
