WTB: S&W lettered revolver shipped Oct. 6, 1958
Howdy All,
My wife's 60th birthday will roll around on Oct. 6, 2018. Barbara always plans ahead and gives me really cool bd presents. I'm looking for an exposed hammer revolver for her that was shipped from Smith and Wesson on the day she was born: October 6, 1958. Clearly it will need to be accompanied by a letter from Mr. Jinks, then I'll have him address a new letter to her for the big day.
I thought about getting a 60-year-old bottle of single malt Scotch whisky for her, but if I were going to spend that kind of money I'd buy her a new car.
I know this might be a bit of a challenge, but I'm a patient guy. Please let me know if you have something in at least 90 - 95% condition that you're willing to sell.
Thanks,
Bob

Bounce. "How sweet it is."
Another of my favorite sayings by Jackie Gleason.

Bounce, please, and perhaps the most appropriate Jackie Gleason words:
"I only made $200 a week and I had to buy my own bullets."

Bounce, please, and another great one by Jackie Gleason:
"I love this country. It's been good to me beyond my wildest dreams."

Bounce, please, and another of Jackie's most notable quotes:
"One of these days ... One of these days ... POW! Right in the kisser!"

Here's a Jackie Gleason nugget that might run parallel or counter to my original post:
"When you first begin to make money and become a success, you say to yourself, "I'd better get all these things I wanted!" because how fruitless it would be if you could afford these things and didn't get them. So you accumulate everything. And then you begin to realize that the materialistic things aren't of a great value. It's just getting them. Once you've got them, they lose all the greatness."

Bounce, please, and another Gleason dandy:
"If you have it and you know you have it, then you have it. If you have it and don't know you have it, you don't have it. If you don't have it but you think you have it, then you have it."

Switching to others who made great statements...
Art critic Bernard Berenson said, "Consistency requires you to be as ignorant today as you were a year ago."

"Wear your learning, like your watch, in a private pocket, and do not pull it out and strike it merely to show you have one. If you are asked what o'clock it is, tell it, but do not proclaim it hourly and unasked, like the watchman."

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American... There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Bounce, please (2 years and 2 days away...)
... and a catchy little poem written 99 years ago:
“Out Where the West Begins”
Out where the handclasp’s a little stronger,
Out where the smile dwells a little longer,
That’s where the West begins;
Out where the sun is a little brighter,
Where the snows that fall are a trifle whiter,
Where the bonds of home are a wee bit tighter,
That’s where the West begins.
Out where the skies are a trifle bluer,
Out where the friendship’s a little truer,
That’s where the West begins;
Out where a fresher breeze is blowing,
Where there’s laughter in every streamlet flowing,
Where there’s more of reaping and less of sowing,
That’s where the West begins.
Out where the world is in the making,
Where fewer hearts in despair are aching,
That’s where the West begins.
Where there’s more of singing and less of sighing,
Where there’s more of giving and less of buying,
Where a man makes a friend without half trying,
That’s where the West begins.
- Arthur Chapman
