Yep, probably so.
Old Bill is gone now, and as usual, the younger generation forgets "the girl they came with to the dance." Instead of concentrating on a quality product at a reasonable profit, they start cutting corners to squeeze every penny out of the bottom line. Quality suffers, they lose market share, have a "eureka!" moment, start to fix the problems, and finally begin to rebound. And around and around we go.
Even then it never quite gets back to what it was.
