I have my OD sleeping pad from my Reserve days and 2 blue commercial pads, they work fine, I had more than 1 GI air mattress go flat on me. The best air mattresses have separate tubes that fit in a cover-like a bicycle tube in a tire, and if they puncture they can be patched. As an Eagle Scout I pride myself on being able to choose a good camping site and clearing a sleeping area which is a big part of it.
And when you're tired enough, it's amazing where you can sleep.
