I have two of the 3/4 length canvas coats but I don't usually carry in them. The holsters (one each side) are cheap sewn elastic. They can easily hold a J Frame or even a 5" 1911. The thing I've found is that when carrying a heavy gun, the coat pulls pretty hard on the back of your neck. Over time, I've ended up with a sore neck. A J frame though doesnt weight much and shouldnt be a problem.

As far as it goes as a coat in general, I love it. Construction is good, they are warm and fit comfortable. They are cut a little big so if you usually wear a 2x, get an XL, if you usually wear an XL, get a L, etc.... I dont have a leather one but a buddy of mine does and he's very happy with it.
