In response to the question about Grady Thompson starting his law enforcement career at age 40, I now have info that he began carrying a badge after he went broke farming. In the '20's and '30's in Texas he wasn't alone in experiencing that kind of "financial reversal". Times were very tough.

Apparently there were others in his family who had pursued the LEO career previously.
