It might also depend on how many rounds have been down the pipe. Older handguns such as your 686-3 tend to break in as more and more rounds are fired with them. I bought a nearly unfired 66 no-dash about a year ago and, at first, I was really disappointed with the gun. The trigger was heavy and gritty and required considerable work by me to cycle in da. However, with the passage of time, the trigger has lightened enormously. So much so that my 66 has become my all-time favorite centerfire revolver. That's with factory springs and no modifications.
