Default Gun show find of the day, Savage Model 5 with Lyman target sight.... UPDATE! Range report with pictures!

Went to the Hampton, Virginia gun show today to sell some stuff to purchase even better stuff, I have to pay for a Savage Model 29A I have on layaway, and to get some money to fund my search for a Winchester Model 61 .22 pump rifle. Sold most of the stuff I bought to sell, didn't see anything interesting until just before leaving, a Savage Model 5 target rifle with a Lyman tangient sight. Asking price $125, got it for $115 out the door. It is in good shape, looks good, no cracks, military sling. I tried it out when I got home, shooting some .22 Long Rifles and CB shorts through it in the back yard, operates 100% and looks like it is capable of excellent accuracy. I'll take it to the range tomorrow and give it a thorough test.

Here's some pics, dime shown for size comparison:

How was your gun show day?

Update: Took it to the range this morning and was very pleased with the rifles accuracy. After sighting it in with standard velocity target ammo (CCI and Federal) I shot some groups from the prone, sitting and offhand (standing) positions. Rifle is 100% reliable with .22 long rifle and short ammo. The Lyman sight is easy to use and adjust. The rifle is capable of one hole groups at 25 yards, came close but pulled one shot out of each group, trigger control, I guess. Here's some pics:

I'm not sharing the offhand group pictures yet, the rifle is lighter than I am used to, so I'm going to have to work with this rifle to make good offhand scores.

The rifle has no serial number (like a lot of pre-1968 rifles), so it's hard to determine what year it was made. I did find that only the Pre-WW2 rifles had checkered stocks, Post WW2 stocks were plain, so this should be a pre-war rifle.

I am very pleased with the rifle, I've spent more money on beer for a week long trip than what I spent on this rifle, now I need to find some small bore matches to shoot, maybe some CMP Sporter Matches.
