I always do. Go with a light coating of gun oil, wet patch of oil followed by 1 dry patch.
If you go shooting 1 minute later, the barrel for all intended purposes is dry. If the gun is dripping wet, your shirt gets wet, so just a film of oil all over is all that is needed over metal surfaces. Too much is not a good thing, as it collects dirt & dust, just a wipe down with a oily rag.
