If you get on the CMP site, there are a number of technical articles on the Garand. The best one shows how to detail strip the M1 and reassemble again.

There are also instructions there on proper lubrication and stock maintenance.

There is a special tool to disassemble the bolt, but it is easily done with a flat blade screwdriver. Difficult to explain, but someone can show you in less than 10 seconds. Once you know how, the special tool will never be used again.

When you are done, make sure the gas plug is torqued, not just hand tight. It will loosten when firing and open your groups it not tightened properly.
