I'd second the idea of verifying the battery voltage and charging system. You can buy a Chinese made voltmeter at Harbor Freight (or some place like it) for $10.

If you take the instrument cluster out, check the ground going to the voltmeter. Grounds are a common problem in instrument clusters.
