I don't know about that. A few years ago I saw a protection detail working where everyone on the team was wearing polos, khakis, and fanny packs.
Definitely not the types I'd call "unmanly"...at least not if I wanted to survive the encounter.
FYI, it was not the fanny packs that gave them away, but the way they carried themselves.
