I love fried squirrel with mash potatoes and brown gravy. We used to live near a river and would hunt from a fishing boat. They would run around on the limbs overhanging the water and we would shoot them and scoop them up with a fish net. The ones we were hunting were locals, probably four or five generations in the same county, maybe more.
