Nobody knows. Starting about the mid 950,000 serial numbers , you begin to see the smooth walnut grips appear on some guns, mostly the British shipped guns, however the checkered stocks are mixed in. After about 980,000, or so, you seldon see original checkered grips, and after V 1 , they are all smooth wood grips. Ed
