Sorry GF, I thought you were kidding about Mellon!?
Wheat chaff is a term I've hear engravers use for this form of repetitive decoration. It is usually used as a border. I've also heard of a variation called "mule shoe" for whatever that's worth? Either term would be a graphic description.(The surname is usually the largest and middle initial in a monogram.)
That revolver begs for more story? Who made the presentation, when and what for? Any more engraving on the other side? What happened to the magna's, or the domed sideplate screw? The 38/40?
It's a very cool revolver and one might imagine that there really IS a "rest of the story" for that one? Might I have missed another post?
Best,
Steve

This was one of two Outdoorsmans presented to him. The other is a 38/44.
2. No
3. I don't know if it's "wheat chaff" engraving. If you can tell by the pic I'd appreciate the info.
