Re moonclip conversions of a .45 Colt MG. Afterwards, although it will load moonclipped .45 ACPs fine - it won't take .45 Auto Rims. The .45 Colt chambering will take the .45 Colts, the limited availability .45 'Specials' sold by a SASS fellow, and, of course, .45 Schoffields (Shorter .45 Colts - with a real rim!).

I have two 625MG's in .45 Colt - a -6 from '96 and a -7 from '01. I won't modify them. They are fun as-is - despite the black/black sights. My one 625 in .45 ACP/AR is the JM variant of the -8 that I bought 2/05. It has a spring-loaded front sight (& w/o rear) for ease of changing - and a great trigger - as long as I load Fed primers. I can shoot .45 Colt-loads in .45 Auto Rim cases from it - using an HKS #25 speedloader (The #25-5 works with the .45 Colts & MG's.).

I said good-bye to a bunch of .45 Colt revolvers since acquiring those MGs, inc a RH, BH, Bisley BH, Vaquero, & my .454 SRH. The S&W's load/unload more easily and group better at 25-50yd. You have to roll you own here - .45 Colt 'cowboy' loads are even expensive these days. If I didn't have my basement ammo factory, I'd go with 'just' a 625JM and .45 ACP.
