Sir, thank you for the question. All .38 J-frames (new Production) can handle .38 +p loads and are stamped so on the side of the barrel for piece of mind. For a .38 with exposed hammer the 637 with either the 1 7/8" barrel or 2.5" barrel fit that bill. The Model 638/438 have a concealed or rather shrouded type hammer.
