Commemorative? I was lucky enough to find the real deal at a local gun shop in Simi Valley, California (sometimes called the Cop Land of LAPD) a couple of years ago. It's a 4506-1 with adjustable night sights ordered shortly after .45s became authorized (
not issued
) for purchase and carry by LAPD officers in early 1997. This was after the North Hollywood Shootout in February of that year when LAPD brass finally listened to numerous requests by the rank and file that they be authorzied to carry .45s.
The pistol has wear consistent with extended carry in a duty hoster (I put on a new wrap around grip).
S&W Model 4506-1 Stainless Steel Double Action .45 Pistol, Special Order Los Angeles Police, caliber .45 ACP
With original box
Right side
Left side . . . and it shoots good, too
And, of course, those factory adjustable night sights (I had stripped the slide down for cleaning)
