No, you're absolutely right, just because it doesn't happen in the first sessions doesn't mean anything. My point was just that the chances of your gun blowing up in your face is low and taking some basic precautions could at least ease his nervousness. After all, he bought the gun to enjoy, not to be too nervous to use. But yes, hope for the best, plan for the worst... eternal vigilence... and other cliches.
