A comment from an outsider. I'm a Glock guy. Yes, they may be ugly, but they've been reliable for me. I have lots of Smiths, but they're revolvers.
I have a model 30 and a model 36, both in .45 Auto. The model 36 is the SLIMLINE model and is new to me. Compact frame, a tiny bit smaller than a 9mm Glock model 19.
I can no longer shoot well offhand. Generally, IMHO, if you want to know what the gun can do, rather than what "you" can do, then you need a rest.
My new model 36, with a nasty stock trigger, about 8#, puts five rounds into 0.67" @ 10 yards, and 10 rounds into 0.9" @ the same distance. From a rest. This is with Win Whitebox ammo.
I have held the Smith; have NOT shot it, but my only criticism is that the bore axis sits a bit higher than the Glock. It might just be a nice gun. I hope to rent it sometime soon at my LGS and check it out.
Since these guns are designed for "combat accuracy," then these guns...and the H&K's, SA's and others, do a pretty fine job.
