It's difficult to explain why things go the way they do in auctions sometimes. But it appears to be a case of someone (at least 2 of them) finding something, perhaps difficult to find in the desired condition, that they really want to add to their collection or have been dreaming of for a long time, and having the available funds to do so. Life is short and looking can take a long time for some things.

I'm perfectly happy with my 98% 8 3/8" Model 27-2 with no box that I bought several years ago for around $450. It gets to go to the range quite often ... enough to make it a really fun acquisition .
