I have carried a 642-2 for a few years now and there are some wear spots on this fine revolver. If you want a gun to stay cosmetically perfect, leave it in your safe and wipe it with a silk cloth once every four months. I personally see no problem in a purely cosmetic "issue" with a carry revolver, after all it's purpose is to perform not to win a beauty contest.
Too often I read posts from people concerned about scrubbing the living hell out of their guns (to the point of damage) and sending a handgun back to the factory because there is a wear mark in the finish after a year of carry, to that I say relax. Safe queens are just that, working guns are not what they look like, but what they can do. It would be a better use of time looking for cheaper ammunition to do more shooting then fretting over a cosmetic blemish.
