As Charlie said, she was real lucky.

My wife is a Deputy Sheriff and up till about 4-5 months ago had been serving eviction orders on foreclosures. Definitely a bit of job security in today's market but not the safest beat in the County. She did that for close to two years and I was relieved when her LT moved her to handle the work release program. Now she gets to check up on the felons as they try to reintegrate to society or finish paying their debt to society. I still think a patrol beat is safer.
