240xxx would be a 1915 gun. What is the last patent date on the barrel? You probably have a 1905/third change rather than a 1905/fourth change.
You can shoot modern .38 Special ammo in that gun, but avoid +P rounds. I shoot wadcutter target ammo in my older .38s (1900-1922); low pressure and good accuracy.
