I'd be more worried of that Cataract Surgery and the 240 miles you traveled with those eyes than the Roll Scroll Markings. The Gap as you refer to it is there to facilitate the Slide Release catching the slide either manually or on the last round pop up of the Magazine Follower.
I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight knowing that such a horrible oversight slipped through S&W's QC. And I bet you bugs to barnacles that is gonna make that weapon shoot Low To The Left.
