I think I'd be disappointed with the roll mark S&W name too. The issues mentioned (long drive and problems with eyesight) are irrelevant to that issue; there is no question about the problem tracking back to poor work (probably a broken roller) and failure to QC at the factory.
The circumstances make it more frustrating for the poster, and I sympathize. I've had my experiences... we all do.
S&W offers top customer service. I'd say, call them, send it in, give them a chance to make it right. SDs are great working guns/shooters. It will seem well worth it once they fix it and you shoot it a bunch.
