Yes you can swap the baseplates.

However, the "modification" needed is dirt simple.
1. Take the baseplate off the SW40F magazine.
2. Find the top surface of the baseplate that touches the grip when inserted.
3. Sand off about 1/16".
4. Put the baseplate back on the mag and check it in the gun. You need only a slight clearance between the baseplate and the grip of the gun.

The problem with the advice about "just push it in really hard" is that the magazine catch is only party engaged, and can drop the mag at an inopportune time. You want just enough clearance between the baseplate and the gun grip for a slight wiggle, to insure the magazine catch is fully engaged.

You could have done one in the time it took to read this.
I've done a bunch.
