The 3rd Generation pistols exist the way they are because Wayne Novak was tinkering with improvements to the 2nd Generation pistols. He is credited with most of the modifications, and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if he converted 645's to see if a 1006 was even possible.

Shoot him an email and ask him directly what exactly he made and what happened to them. He might still have a 10mm 645 in his closet.
