Default Please Help Identify My Revolver

Note: New member, so i may make mistakes here. I have read several posts but could not find enough info to determine the specific weapon my father passed to me.

I have a "38 S&W Special CTG" (on barrel) revolver with a 4inch barrel. It has a wood grip. The serial number on the bottom of the grip and the bottom of the barrel is: 977652 (no letters). The barrell has "Smith and Wesson" on the other side of the barrell. and the Trade Mark, and "made in U.S.A."

The numbers on the "inside" (when the cylinder is rolled open) and on part of the frame that holds the barrell apears to be 24499 with 99 (?) above that. The numbers on the arm of the cylinder right below the previous marking are 24499 with a larger S (?) under it.

The are six letters ORD LOP behind thumb release and below the hammer)

Can you help me with identifying this? :-) Thanks, Tim
