I actually have a use for a smart phone.
I'm our town's SKYWARN ham radio operator.
A couple of weeks ago I was between two severe storms - One was a bit east of me and the other was a bit west. The one west of me produced large hail and a tornado.
I had no idea which way I should go to get out of the way or what way either storm was tracking.
I decided right then that I need a smart phone so that I can see the Nexrad radar when I need to....

BTW - ANYONE can be in the SKYWARN program. The more eyes watching the sky and reporting the better and sooner warnings can be issued. You don't need to be a ham anymore since the advent of cell phones. But you do have to be careful.
