Taking the kids is the BEST thing you can do for them. And, taking their friends and showing them the proper basics will ensure that they have basic safety fundamentals and they will enjoy themselves much more, and they will much more likely be respectful shooters as they grow up.
Much, far too much is left for kids to either learn on their own, or from a teacher who might or might not take the time to do it right, be knowledgeable, or really care about the learning situation at hand.
The best education a person can get is from a mentor who has knowledge and the wisdom to impart a safe, fun, learning environment. I taught a lot of my sons' friends to shoot. Their families would never have done that for them- hunting, fishing, camping...... it's been my greatest pleasure.
