When my boy came to visit over Christmas he brought his newest light which he uses on his bike at night. It's about the size of my index finger and has MANY lumens; it lit up the stop sign two blocks down the street. I realized I was a little behind the times in flashlights.

I really don't need that much light. I now have a Fenix LD 40 for around the house. It would hurt if you got bonked on the head with it, too. For my travel bag I have a little LD 18, which produces enough light to turn a motel room into day. My only criticism of it is that it's round and rolls off the bedside table. I duct taped a piece of stiff cardboard to it, so now it has a flat place and doesn't roll.

For my bedside table at home and for my two vehicles I have L.L. Bean wind-up lights so I don't have to worry about batteries going dead.
