Believe CR or not, it's amazing how many dogs and cats have survived/thrived in the past 50 years or more on so called "junk pet food, it's all marketing, yuppy hype. Remember when it was pretty much only Purina or Alpo??

Don't pay a premium for 'premium' pet food
True to a point. However, many dogs are allergic to corn, wheat and soy. There are others but those are the most common. Allergic dogs will benefit from a grain free food or a food that doesn't contain those three.

Cheaper foods also usually contain more fillers & additives. Somebody mentioned a pile of sawdust. That is "fiber." This "fiber" can actually be beneficial to some dogs. We fed our diabetic foster Science Diet W-D. It's a weight control food with an ingredients list that is pretty shocking. But it's slow to digest, which makes blood sugar more easily controlled with insulin. Makes for some enormous piles of poop though.

I'd be happier if the law was more strict re honesty about where the ingredients come from. "Made in USA" is absolutely meaningless. Companies KNOW we want American made so that's what they put on the bag. But cheap **** from China is "Made in USA" if the stuff is combined and bagged here. Get it? "MADE" in USA.

The whole poisoned pets thing a few years ago was absolutely dollar based. The Chinese used Melamine as an additive because it artificially boosts protein numbers cheaply. Melamine is poison, period.
