It can sometimes give a clue as to manufacture date range. If it's a 14 round/shot magazine like mine it was made between 1989 and 1991. In 1992 they switched to the 15 round/shot mag. and the rounded smaller trigger guard. Produced 1989 -1999. So yours is definitely an early production example.
