Nothing wrong with the GD's in 9mm, GD's have had failings in a few calibers, but the 9mm results are excellent. +P does better in testing, if the Shield is rated +P, I do not own one. +P will also help make up for the short barrel. Are you aware Speer makes short barrel specialty ammo?
