pownal55. you hit my next up question right between the eyes!!

I have a 617-4 that the PO was not educated on how to remove a side plate, there is some touch-up needed.

The -4 side plate looks a little smoother than Scotch Brite, even though the barrel looks Scotch Brite finished. It is an old gun, who knows.

I just looked at my 617 no-dash, it looks the same.

I guess I can start there and then work up with finer grit sandpaper, I have gone up to 1200 before on a stainless steel Ruger MKII bolt, that looked like polished chrome, then come back down until I get a match.

Mine will only being removal of a slight side cover burr.

Does that sound correct??
